Cattle on pasture
Our cattle graze the hillside pastures above the lake. When the grass goes dormant in winter, we feed hay.
Highgrove is 543 acres of hillside pasture and forest above Lake Apalachia in Violet, North Carolina. It's a working farm, and it's still being built, so what you see here is where we are today.

Honeybees live at our Slovenian-style bee house and in hives set out around the farm.
An 8-acre orchard and a walled garden are part of the farm. We'll show you both as they grow.
Chickens, guinea hens, turkeys and goats live here too. The trail cameras on Wild Life catch the animals that aren't ours.
This season's turkeys are all spoken for, and we're grateful. They're raised on pasture and finished on organic, corn-free, soy-free grain.

Follow our journeyWe want to leave the ground in better shape than we found it. That means grazing so the pasture grows back thick, leaving the woods and creeks alone, and paying attention to who else lives here. The Wild Life page shows what turns up on our cameras, and the history tells who farmed these hills before us.
