How would you like to improve the safety of your block, have a fun time with your neighbors, and take part in a huge nationwide program? You can do it all at the annual National Night Out (NNO) celebration on Tuesday August 4, 2009! This is the time to get together with neighbors and make a commitment to keep neighborhoods safe by watching out for each other and reporting crime and suspicious behavior. Charles County has been nationally recognized since 1988 for its participation in National Night Out. There are various ways citizens participate in the event; some host block parties, pool parties, cookouts and other such events. Others simply leave their porch lights on. But no matter how they participate, their purpose remains the same: to send a strong message to criminals that crime is not tolerated in Charles County. Children between the ages of four and 12 are invited to participate in a coloring contest sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office. Entries are available from neighborhood coordinators and from several local businesses. Winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at a later date and prizes will be awarded. Highgrove events will take place between 6:00pm and sunset at Gatwick Field (near the Townhomes.) Planned activities include a moon-bounce, pick-up soccer, football, coloring, and conversation. Water and ice cream refreshments will be provided at no charge.
